Marmite

Marmite is a yeast spread, popular on toast or in sandwiches. There is a very strong, distinctive taste which many people love but also many people hate – I love it! It used to contain beef stock, but now it is vegetarian versions, as are similar products by other brands.

マーマイトは、イーストからできたペーストで、トーストやサンドイッチに塗ります。特有の強い風味で、好き嫌いがはっきり分かれます。以前はビーフストックが含まれていましたが、今はベジタリアンです。

There is an advertising campaign for this entitled “Marmite: Love it or hate, just don’t forget it.” The makers have made a strong image of Marmite as being something that is impossible to have no opinion about – everybody who tries it either loves it or hates it.
