News Exercise #102
This is a one-man report in Budapest. This time, please try to catch the entire report. I’ve added a few words and times to help:
0:00 Seven O’clock …………………… Here are the temporary portaloos. (Portable toilet; “loo” means toilet)
0:25 …………………………… Oh, my goodness. …………………………….
1:38 (A lot of?) children sleeping there. …………………………………………
2:10 I was ………………………………………………. (We’ve) both been ………………………………………………………

If the ………………………………………………….., but …………………………………………….

This is a one-man report in Budapest. This time, please try to catch the entire report. I’ve added key words and times to help:
0:00 Seven O’clock in the morning in the rush hour in Budapest. Bus stop, the train station. Here’s where there must be several thousand are sleeping. They extend right the way under that concourse there. Here are the temporary portaloos.
0:25 I’m just going to try and head down there now. Oh, my goodness. remember, this is a European capital city.
1:38 (A lot of?) children sleeping there. Some in a tent. Here comes a commuter.
2:10 I was just talking to a colleague here; we’ve both reported from a lot of places around the both. (We’ve) both been to a lot of refugee camps, but this is arguably one of the strongest impressions that we’ve had in such a situation. If this was the middle of the desert somewhere we wouldn’t think twice. If the people here were under UN tarpaulins we wouldn’t think twice, but this is just astonishing. This is a refugee camp. And look how the people (are) heading to the underground. That’s daily life, and so too is this.
3:30 And here we are, the scene that we were first looking down on from that bridge up there, where, remember, the rush hour is going on. And here they are, waking up, starting another day; breakfast time.
