News Exercise #254
I have featured the music of UK singers Chas & Dave twice in this blog, in 2015 and 2017. You can see the posts here. I’m sad to hear of the passing of the pianist and singer, Chas Hodges.
1. What was the opening statement, up to 016?
2. What was Chas’s condition during his last major performance; and where was this?
3. What did the reporter say concerning the title of one of their biggest hits?
Answers:
1. What was the opening statement, up to 016?
“Theirs was a style as catchy as it was unique; rock ‘n’ roll Cockney singalongs that were, for many, the soundtrack to the 70s and 80s.”
2. What was Chas’s condition during his last major performance; and where was this?
It was this summer in Hyde Park (a very large music festival in central London), and he was already undergoing treatment for cancer of the esophagus.
3. What did the reporter say concerning the title of one of their biggest hits?
He said that the title was “There Ain’t No Pleasing You”, but that the title couldn’t be further from the truth. What he meant was that Chas and Dave had pleased many people for a long time.
