Blackadder

Everybody knows Rowan Atkinson, but it may surprise Japanese to hear that Mr Bean is not his most popular character in Britain. Before Mr Bean, he created the character Blackadder. There were 4 series (1984-1989), each of which was set in a different time in history, and the hero is a different generation of the family Blackadder.

Here is a scene featuring Hugh Laurie (Dr House) and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid in Harry Potter). In this series, Blackadder is the servant of the Prince Regent.

As this will probably never be shown in Japan, I can show you the final scene, in which Captain Blackadder and his comrades are killed in World War I. It is a moving and sad ending to a very funny series.
