English Wordplay #3
This fish and chips restaurant is playing with the words “A Salt And Battery” (“batter” is the covering for deep-fried fish, like with tempura) and the term “Assault And Battery”, which is a legal term meaning to attack somebody.
“-ery” or “-ry” or “-y” are common noun endings, particularly for a shop or business that provides a service. So, they are saying that this business is a salt and battery; one that provides salt and batter.
