London Handel Festival

Although born German, Handel has always been especially famous in Britain as he became a British citizen and lived there for over 50 years. He was commissioned to write music by the royal family, including “Music For The Royal Fireworks”, “Water Music” and the most famous work “Messiah”, which is traditionally performed throughout Britain around Christmas. His work “Zadok The Priest” has been performed at every British monarchy coronation since 1727.

ドイツ人として生まれたヘンゼルですが、イギリス国籍を取得、50年以上イギリスで暮らし、イギリスで有名になりました。王室のために作曲した曲として “Music For The Royal Fireworks”, “Water Music” そして有名なメサイアは、クリスマス期間中イギリス各地で演奏されます。”Zadok The Priest” は、1727年より、国王即位のセレモニーで演奏されます。
The London Handel Festival has been held annually for 25 years in various venues, including Handel’s own church, Saint George’s Church at Hanover Square, where the Handel Singing Competition is held. This year the festival takes place from 3rd March to 18th April.

25年目となるロンドンヘンゼルフェスティバルは、年に一度、ヘンデルゆかりの教会やヘンデルのコンクールが行われるハノーバースクエアなど、さまざまな場所で行われ、今年は3月3日から4月18日まで開催されます。
