Answers:
1) Why did the interviewer apologize before his first question at 0:52?
He said, “Sorry, it’s probably the naive question of a male presenter here…” He meant that maybe the answer is obvious to women, but as a man, he didn’t know the answer. Remember that ‘naive’ in English is different to its usage in Japanese.
2) What was his first question?
“…were you surprised by the amount of comments you got, or is that what you get anyway?
3) According to the interviewer, how often were comments made, and what kinds of comments were they? 1:20
“…Something like a comment every six minutes, and some of them pretty crude and pretty pushy.
4) At 1:40, the interviewer describes one incident that happened to her: “Ok, there’s another element of that video which, really… had gone out (broadcast), I think we’ve got a little bit of it actually, a little chunk (excerpt) of one guy who clearly you didn’t know, who decided to accompany you, and not just for a moment, but he did it for ages; he just stuck with you for five minutes.
5) she said that she had considered hitting the man. What two options had she considered for this?
“I was thinking, ‘Should I get him in the sternum or the kneecaps, if I need to?'”
6) Emily May (the second lady speaker) said that her organisation “Hollaback” have sites supporting women: “What I do know is that everywhere street harassment happens, and that there’s resistance to it all around the world. We have sites in 79 cities, in 20 countries, in 14 different languages.”
7) At 4:57 she explains what the problem is. Why does she feel harassed by this?
“The words alone don’t hurt, but it’s the intonation of their voice, it’s the intentions, it’s the ulterior motives they have; they’re not saying hello to the man behind me or the woman in front of me.
8) Emily summed it up at 6:06 with : “There’s this fear of escalation that’s always sitting with us as women.”
