Chatham Dockyards

The Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent (South-East England) is a very interesting day out for all ages. You can go onto a 19th Century sailing ship, a World War II battleship and a 1960 submarine, but I think the most interesting feature is the Victorian Ropery. This is a long building (I think about 1km) where shipping ropes used to be made. The system still works and you can see a demonstration. The area covered is large, with all the original maritime buildings either still being used or preserved.
