Christmas Decorations

The Christmas tree is a kind of pine tree. Traditionally, people used a real tree, freshly cut. The tree makes the house smell fresh but the ‘needles’ fall down and make a mess every day. Because of this, many people have turned to artificial trees. Many Christians decorate the tree with Christian decorations, though the tree is not of Christian origin. It is usually decorated in mid-December, though in public places it appears earlier, like in Japan. I have seen in American movies and TV dramas that people buy their tree and decorate it on Christmas Eve, though I’m not sure if this is only in fiction. Most families decorate the living room but many people decorate the whole downstairs. Many decorations are evergreen plants such as holly, ivy and mistletoe, but of course there are also colourful streamers and tinsel, just like in Japan.
