Real Errors… on the news!

This is an example of what happens when you don’t use clear intonation:

“This is BBC World News, I’m Johnathon Charles, kept hidden for almost two decades and forced to bear children…”

It sounds like he himself had been kept hidden and forced to bear children. Actually, it was the start of his first news item. If he had made a clear full stop (“period” in US English), then it wouldn’t have sounded funny:

“This is BBC World News, I’m Johnathon Charles.
Kept hidden for almost two decades and forced to bear children…”
